Rationalisation of funding streams

Government has increasingly sought to rationalise funding streams at a local level by combining multiple streams into one pot and consolidating targets, for example, through Local Area Agreements.  This is intended to increase local government’s control on spending, enabling them to target priorities in their area, and reduce bureaucracy.  It aims to break down silos, where thinking and funding is focused around specific areas, and allow more holistic strategic policies to be set.
